Manage Subprojects¶
Subprojects structure responsibility, reporting, and portfolio work. They should not replace individual tasks.
Manage subprojects when parts of the plan are delegated, imported from another file, or reused as a template.
Workflow¶
Create subprojects for meaningful reporting units.
Open existing subprojects when detailed planning is delegated.
Keep shared calendars and resource pools consistent.
Use portfolio or master-project workflows for several project files.
Verify dates, links, and resources after import or reload.
Create and open subprojects¶
Create a new subproject with Start > Insert > Subproject when the structure is still being built.
To insert an existing project as a subproject, use Start > Insert > Subproject from file template and select the project file.
In the open dialog, choose the project and decide whether it should be inserted at the start or end of the subproject. You can also insert selected tasks instead of the whole project.
Resource-pool check¶
Inserted template projects should use the same resource pool as the main project. If the resource pools differ, Rillsoft Project shows a warning. Open the inserted project separately and switch it to the correct resource pool before continuing.
You can also insert a template subproject from the Gantt chart context menu.
Check the result¶
Each subproject has an owner.
Cross-subproject dependencies are intentional.
Demand can be evaluated across subprojects.
